This release Vol 2 of Ellingtonia is a wonderful companion to vol 1. Sun Ra’s early years in Birmington Alabama and his introduction to swing and the great big bands that came to his town are the foundation to his later ideas an music. I can’t understand his complete book of music without having knowledge of the early music.
