The Desert At Night The Desert At Night
Personal favorites are the songs that develop unhurried moods, most notably Van Cleef, The Desert at Night, and A Blustery Day, the last two of which feature a guest flautist. An album-length project of similar material would be most welcome.

  9. Multicoloured Blue
    by the Strayhorn Project
A live recording from 2004 (released on CD the same year) sees new life at Bandcamp. Thank you, Mr Kaldestatd, for making this available and letting us enjoy this lovely session of Strayhorn selections. The entire album goes into my Slow Jazz playlist, delicate music for a quiet Sunday morning, or following a long day of hard work. Kudos to the engineer and the respectful audience.
  10. Up A Step - The Music of Hank Mobley

  11. No Hard Feelings (Album) - New Street Adventure
    by New Street Adventure
Love the music. Where can I find the lyrics?
  12. Status Quo
    by Marvin Frey Group
If you like small-group, acoustic jazz, this is one recording worth checking out. Standout moments including scorching trombone work from Jonathan Böbel on Slash and Running Late, the horn harmonies and Marvin Frey’s playful solo on Just Squeeze Me, bassist Andreas Pientka’s creaky opening on Nightmare, and the raging double-time piano and drum virtuosity of Jerry Lu and Alex Parzhuber on Straight Up.
  13. GROOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
by Enric Peidro meets Jonathan Stout
Apart from the gentle gallop of Shivers and Squatty Roo, the program consists of mid to down tempo numbers suitable for slow dancing or Sunday brunches. Highlights include the slow groove on Sunday and Coquette, and the leisurely shuffle of On the Sunny Side of The Street. Special mention to pianist Richard Busiakiewicz for filling out these songs with tasteful soloing.
  14. Rippin' & Runnin'
    by Farnell Newton
A fat slice of soul jazz served up by organist Brian Charette and drummer Rudy Royston, topped with slathers of spicy trumpet and saxophone gravy from Farnell Newton and Brandon Wright. Only thing missing here is a side of Grant Green or Wes Montgomery guitar. The music is a bit richer than your average Jimmy Smith outing, but tastes just as good, most especially that Gas Station Hot Dog. Someone pass the mustard!
  15. Barba Lunga
    by Roger Beaujolais Italian Trio
Drummer Alessandro Pivi mixes up his performances via use of sticks and brushes, while bassist Giacomo Dominici does the same through use of both acoustic and electric bass. One noticeable sound on the low end is a booming thrum from the kick bass, a sound compatible to what you might hear in dance music. Beaujolais’ vibe is clean and clear and the soloing here shows him capable of more than riffing on R&B grooves.
