  1. Ÿ (Cube)
    by Öxxö Xööx
Lëïth Säë (The Bright Spirit) Lëïth Säë (The Bright Spirit)
Ÿ explodes, completes itself, transcends its own reality, and appears as a perfect continuity of Rëvëürt/Nämïdäë. The amount of ideas and detail is monumental, and emotions are somehow more intense/complex than ever before. Vocal performances reach thrilling, unprecedented new heights, and even if the tracks could seem scattered all over the place, they actually bring to existence something that you can already feel through the unique, liberating art of the album.

-- my Album of the year 2019.
  2. Nämïdäë (The Last Tears)
    by Öxxö Xööx
Därkäë (The Black Tears) Därkäë (The Black Tears)
Delving into this maelström of an album is not easy. Being so unique, i feel like the biggest strength of Nämïdäë is also what makes it so hard to apprehend fully : because it feels like it's part of one entity, this album and Rëvëürt are like two bodies melting into one continuous experience. I'm really curious to see how the third album will expand on those two first "chapters", if a beginning or an end even exist in the realm of this incredible music.
  3. Rëvëürt (Heart's Revolt)
    by Öxxö Xööx
Ämä (Difficult Love) Ämä (Difficult Love)
Esthetically and artistically, volumes could be written about this record, yet i bet there would still be room for more to discover. Immensely and infinitely deep, words cannot contain this album. Emotions, on the other hand, are your gateway to enter this cosmic journey that will surely expand not only your sensitivity, but your understanding of music and its necessary bond with humans as well. It's a really important album to listen to, if you feel like you have a strong connection to music.
  4. Spirituality and Distortion
    by Igorrr
Himalaya Massive Ritual Himalaya Massive Ritual
Igorrr doesn't lose any of its recognizable style, and indulges in some quite interesting sonical choices, but Spirituality and Distortion is sadly just not interesting enough to make me come back to it as frequently as the previous albums did. It doesn't hold back, though somehow i don't find the exhilaration Savage Sinusoid brought to the table, for example. Some songs are pretty catchy tho.
  5. Savage Sinusoid
    by Igorrr
    Opus Brain Opus Brain
Pushing further and further with each new release, Savage Sinusoid is an album that sort of has it all. While it would seem goofy at first glance, every track's way more clever than you'd think. Every instrument's used to its full potential, bringing surreally cool compositions. You've got classical, extreme metal, jazzy moods and so on, but still with that unmistakable touch that makes Igorrr's albums so worthwhile. If you haven't heard this before, please do yourself a favor and take a listen.
  6. Corpo-Mente
    by Corpo-Mente
    Equus Equus
I discovered Gautier Serre's work and Laure's voice with this project. Far from being as furious as Igorrr's other albums, Corpo-Mente still stands very well on its own, and never falls short. Venturing into a melancholic and beautiful imagery, this album offers splendid tracks, accompanied by seriously talented musicians. I highly recommend it if you're not too much into Öxxö Xööx's darker and more brutal compositions, as this is as contemplative, but softer in tone.
  7. Lïan
    by Rïcïnn
    Lumna Lumna
Formidable album !
  8. 무너지기 (Crumbling)
    by 공중도둑 (Mid-Air Thief)
쇠사슬 (Ahhhh, These Chains!) 쇠사슬 (Ahhhh, These Chains!)
Wow, that's an album i'm not gonna forget anytime soon. Besides the obviously masterful melodies and moods, what really hooked me instantly is the production ! Sounds crackle and fizzle in a particularly complex warmness that i never heard before. It's a pure and intensely gentle album that seems to understand the very texture of the world. One of those rare experiences where i always need to sit through in its entirety, from front to back, and fully immerse myself into it.
    Absolutely genius.
  9. Windswept Adan
    by Ichiko Aoba
    Porcelain Porcelain
Listening to Windswept Adan feels exactly like how the cover art looks. You can really sense the sea flowing all around and within you. The pacing of the album - especially the "interludes" - weren't really my thing, but i've learned to appreciate them over time. I really view albums like these as gifts that always make you grow as a person, being some of the most calming and evocative music i've heard in a while.

    D'une infinie délicatesse.
  10. They Are the Shield
    by Toby Driver
    470 Nanometers 470 Nanometers
There's just something with this music that cannot be explained. Never before have I felt like I needed to understand an album this much. The instruments, mixing a bit of electronic with splendid violins, a sweet guitar, and the tremendous voice of Toby, are out of this world, and I can just feel myself being lifted into the air when I listen to this gorgeous piece of music. The notes and melodies work so well together on every track, but 470 Nanometers is just the most soothing to me.
  11. No Highs
    by Tim Hecker
    Pulse Depression Pulse Depression
No Highs grew on me in a fantastic way. When it hits, Tim's music speaks to me on a very profound emotional level ; i feel the sounds through my entire body. I really view it as a conversation that uncovers something special for each listener. At first i found this album to be too simple, but No Highs reminded me that there can be an astonishingly poignant depth in even the most minimalist patterns. The flow from track to track is quite superb.
  12. Virgins
    by Tim Hecker
    Radiance Radiance
The substance of this album is incomparable. The grain, the texture, the envelope and the volume of it all are crushingly unique. It explores some of the most intriguing, transcendental, soul-bending and overall unforgettable parts of musical dimensions you could only ever imagine of discovering. This was a revelation and every time i relive that album, it stays as indescribably monumental as it was when i first heard it.

-- my Album of the year 2013.
  13. Origin of the Alimonies
    by Liturgy
Apparition of the Eternal Church Apparition of the Eternal Church
The grandeur and range of sounds on OotA are ones to be remembered. The weight of Apparition of the Eternal Church in particular is a sort of pure cosmogony, the format of the whole album elevates itself into something unprecedented. Its scale and impact will forever haunt me : this huge beacon of singular light transmits such a wide array of sensations about religion/theology, that it DEFINITELY made me want to know more about what Liturgy's doing, as this is my first experience of their music.
  14. The Call Within
    by Tigran Hamasyan
    Levitation 21 Levitation 21
Tigran created a graceful album that feels like the story of the universe is unfolding in front of you. Equally gripping and carefree, it's a solid and fulfilling experience. Pacing's pretty neat, plus the way musicians play brings another layer of stylish personality and class. Compositions are astoundingly beautiful and can be super catchy or quite melancholic, showing how much of a pristine vibe the range of emotions on this project is. Those strong melodies regularly come back in my mind.
  15. Hellfire
    by black midi
Welcome To Hell Welcome To Hell
bm cannot be stopped. They became one of my favorite bands of all time scarily quickly, and Hellfire is another timeless masterpiece that i'll adore endlessly. It has the greatest chaotic vibes, and while part of me still prefers the energy and production of Schlagenheim, Hellfire easily has their most lyrically potent and interesting storytelling and absurd imagery yet. What an unforgettable and shockingly creative sound they have.

-- my Album of the year 2022.
  16. Cavalcade
    by black midi
    Slow Slow
black midi continues to expand their massive and impressive music, with a one of a kind production that makes Cavalcade one of the most memorable releases of 2021. Each track has a vivid identity, compositions are always blowing your expectations away. "Slow" especially is a masterpiece on every aspect.
The only regret i have is that the CD pushes my audio system to its absolute limit. I think they went a bit too far on the reverb on "Dethroned" and "Hogwash and Balderdash".
  17. Schlagenheim
    by black midi
    Ducter Ducter
That record's all over the place, but black midi makes it work anyway.
I get more and more in love with this every time i listen to it. Vocals and lyrics are intoxicating, but what impressed me the most is that it's a great demonstration of skill in creating chunky walls of instruments (bmbmbm sounds to me like it could be on Swans' "To Be Kind"). Kinda crazy that it's only their first album but i can guarantee you're gonna find something you like in the huge amount of explosive stuff this has.
  18. GOTTA OUTBREAK YOUR ASS
    by Goya
    Bipolar Bipolar
GOYA is straight-forward, silly but fun, and hits notes that pack a punch. It also shows a very good potential for pushing boundaries by mixing rap, metal, and electronic influences. Production is on point, there are some neat details and all of the tracks have a good amount of ideas and personality to keep several listens engaging. It's overall a more than decent debut that really makes me want to see how they'll evolve.
Continuez les gars, vous défoncez !

  20. The Last Note in God's Magnum Opus
    by Schizoid Lloyd
    Suicide Penguin Suicide Penguin
I've been sleeping on this for far too many years, and only now do i realize that this record is absolutely excellent from beginning to end. The intro track, "Suicide Penguin", with its title and versatility, should be enough to convince you to buy this majestic album. Everything flows seamlessly, it's so freaking impressive. I really hope they'll release another album at some point, because this was definitely one of the greatest debuts i ever heard.
