Damn this guy is good... not just the guitar playing which IS insane... but this is some deep, serious music. Rhythmically complex but still grooves - the riff at 1:35 of Self-Deprecation Boogie is just bad to the BONE!
Heard this tune on Friday Night Progressive and haven't stopped listening to it since. More like a concept EP combined into one track, this one song so obviously shows John Beagley is a compositional, conceptual and production visionary not unlike Peter Gabriel or Roger Waters, transcending styles & instruments... I'll be checking out his other works next.
I am slowly becoming acquainted to the multifaceted talents of Ron Marquiss. This acoustic playing / songwriting is apparently just one of them, but these duets with Raven are a really pleasant, interesting listen.
WOW... this first output of full band music under J's own name brings his normally great songwriting to an even higher level... maybe from not being constrained to a particular band's style or configuration? Vocals sound GREAT too... F*ck yeah let's have a whole album of this!
Rosetta quickly became one of my favorite bands after I got The Anaesthete, and Quintessential Ephemera just cemented that placement. It's more of everything I already loved about them - the postmetal heaviness alternating with beautiful clean parts, and the addition of clean vocals just added a whole new dimension.
