It sounds to me like a refinement and elevation of everything that made songs like Hawkwind's "Master of the Universe" unforgettable treasures of Space Rock. The monastic-style vocals send chills up and down my spine, the time signatures used are delightful, and I can't wait to witness this live.
I haven't been this excited by a new electronic music discovery since turning on to Coil back in '91. Listening to this with eyes closed was a great experience, like Milkdrop for the mind's eye. Towering metallic structures build upon each other connected by delicate latticework and brimming with power. It can be stark and sinister at times, but has a lot of humor within as well. Simply gorgeous and inspiring.
I love the glitchy sounds and odd time signatures, and as a musician I'd love to know more about Mr. Funk's tools and process. This and "Chrome Cylinder" are some of the most exciting electronic music albums I've heard in years!
"My Right" and "Dingbat" were my introduction to Screeching Weasel back in 1989, when a friend made a mixtape of their favorite Chicago area bands at the time. I really resonated with the energy and attitude of Ben, loved the sound of the band, and they became my favorite hometown band for life. It's great to have these demos and I'm really looking forward to the new album!
p.s., the Cool Kids podcast is awesome, keep it up!
