Not as out there as Eartheater, yet more experimental and grittier than Lolina. Outstanding EP, highly recommended

I think that toning down the edgy metal kitsch helps this album being seen just for its musical value without losing Sunn's DNA.

  7. The Great Key
    by Känguin
    Rapidograph Rapidograph
Strongest output by Känguin so far. Very playful shoe-gazy post-rock that playfully grazes a variety of genres while still managing to keep the band's distinct sound which may be described as a funky mix of Russian Circles and Somali Yacht Club. Also an amazing live act, highly recommended
  8. MÄNNERFREUNDSCHAFTEN UND METAPHYSIK

N benefits from the rhythm, Sankt Otten benefit from the full, layered complexity, a perfect match!

This is wild. Maximum bleakness, maximum grimness, and it is done really well. I did not expect such a desolate, yet graceful ride, Hayter really knows her craft. Highly recommended.

Schoner zerbirst, Part II Schoner zerbirst, Part II
Very solid successor to Dress Rehearsal, both share the same genome, so no surprises; it's elaborate enough to feed from that distinct sound for a while, since no one sounds like Soldat Hans. Highly recommended, the release concert was nice as well.

I've always appreciated Bolts drony, rhythmless sound, but there is only so much you can do without repeating yourself. The addition of a drummer is a massive stylistic change while still evolving their signature sound. To me, this is in fact their best work so far: good old Bolt, but now with quite some punch, highly relistenable. Occasionally reminiscent of Kodiak. Very nice work.

Wow. This is music I've unconsciously been waiting for for a long time. Starts out like Bohren, meanders like GYBE and culminates like Neurosis while copying none of those.

I am really puzzled and sad that I missed out on these guys since 2014(!). This might be a favorite for a very long time.
  19. Ode To The Flame

My expectations were pretty high and while it's not a let-down at all, it remains an unsurprising sequel to Death By Burning. Solid record.
  20. RAMA
    by RAMA
    Liquid Eternity Liquid Eternity
RAMA achieve a really nice blend of stoner rock (while avoiding cocky obtrusiveness) and post-rock (while avoiding to be pretentiously overblown). It simply excels at being really well balanced. The mood spread by these three songs is quite infectious as well. Very nice record!
