It's not often that a new band comes around and shows us a different way to play heavy metal. The variation of influences and ideas across this album is amazing considering how cohesive it all is in the end. This is a triumphant masterpiece of progressive music and easily in the running for my best album of 2013. You're missing out if you don't give this at least one listen. You've never heard anything quite like it before.
Monotheist have managed to come along and do what many newer techdeath/deathcore bands have attempted to do, but almost always fail at: create memorable songs which feel genuine and unique. While Monotheist most certainly wear their musical influences on their sleeves, their own take on that music ends up blending elements as far apart as brutal slam death and progressive rock into something cohesive enough to easily identify as Monotheist. This EP is a shining example of talent and imagination.
The psychedelic/stoner rock scene seems to be swelling lately with new bands which all basically sound the same, but to better degrees of enjoyment. Moon Coven can count themselves among the upper tier in both sound and execution on this track. It's a great listen for any fan of the subgenre.
This is going to go down as one of the best Progressive Metal albums of 2014. This fourth release's conceptual composition is the work of one of the new genius musicians of our generation. You have never heard anything quite like this before, unless of course you have been a Steamforged fan. The digital booklet (with story) that accompanies the download is also beautiful. Must own!
The third time is a charm for Steamforged as Tyler unleashes what is quite obviously a magnum opus. Everything came together perfectly for this album and the listener's journey through each track evokes a hidden story which is not difficult to extrapolate. Emotional and powerful stuff. I highly recommend this album to all fans of progressive metal.
Steamforged's follow-up to Transmigration sees improvements in all aspects of the project. The production quality is greatly increased and Tyler pushed himself to craft some of the most powerful progressive music I've ever encountered. This is the work of a budding genius.
The day that Tyler first showed me this album it blew me away and I knew he was going to be somebody to watch. I have never met a musician with as much raw talent as Tyler and I doubt I ever will meet another like him. While this material may not be the most polished sounding that Steamforged have released, it's definitely worth checking out. This is where the journey began!
This debut (and only) album from Sedulity showcases some of the closest music to main man Tony C's heart. This album was many years in the making and most certainly carries itself as a magnificent swansong to the band's existence. If you aren't headbanging during this whole album, you probably don't like metal.
PRW deliver on their promising early releases and have given us one of the best albums of 2013. This is the culmination of the best these musicians have to offer and few independent bands have reached this kind of quality. I'm proud to have been a part of this release and I'm humbled by the hard work and dedication shown by Tony and Patrick. It was worth the wait. Neverwhere Dreamscape is a power/thrash masterpiece.
Roanoke is a great preview of things to come on PRW's first album. It's a short, catchy track with highly memorable hooks and riffs. What I'm really here for is the re-recording of Alchemic Design. It's my favorite song from their demo and it's amazing to hear it fully realized with a guest solo by Tyler from Steamforged. Check it out!
It may not be the most perfect sounding demo out there, but very few demos sound great anyway. The music is what I'm here for and it is most definitely awesome. PRW have a promising future ahead of them.
No matter how much Minecraft may change over the years, listening to this album will take me back to those Alpha days and relive some cherished memories of being blown up by creepers over and over again.
