What if Oxes took MDMA? When I want to be lost in a frenzied swirl of cacophonic riffs set to beats that compel me flail along, I listen to Mochitsuki. I'm never, ever disappointed.

Yawzea's early work is much more lumbering, brooding than its later releases. I think the aptest description is Bitch Magnet or Slint or your Louisville band of choice, tempered with a stronger taste for noisy chords. The songs are familiar, yet the forms they take here so different from their more recent renditions!

    Lead Thoughts Lead Thoughts
Dissonant chords, bouncing basslines, and bulldozer drums come together in a perfect storm of punk frenzy. Whereas other punk bands would be content to regurgitate old cliches -- playing post-post punk or pretending at being Steve Albini or aping AmRep or making budget death metal -- Yawzea makes something fresh and exciting. It's more than the sum of its parts.

What if Vivian Girls were one dude and also it bothered to record hi-fi. That's what this is. It's fun!
