  5. Engine - digi only release

    Mom's TV Mom's TV
EASILY one of the great albums from that amazing late 80s era... which hasn't lost any of its power almost 30 years later. Still an alternative American classic!
  6. California - digi only release
    by American Music Club
Blue And Grey Shirt Blue And Grey Shirt
One of the greatest recordings of the late 80s, and still in my all-time top ten. So good to have a high-quality digital copy, as the CD is very hard to find. I do have the CD after tracking it down but these days I'm listening to music digitally more often than not.
  7. Dreaming of You (1971–1976)
    by Karen Black
    Passing Through Passing Through
I saw the film The Pyx and was very surprised to see that Karen was singing the opening track. Even more surprised at how stunning her voice was. Investigated further only to find that this is the only recording of her. What a shame, she had an incredible voice and wrote some stunning songs but glad at least these recordings are available!
  8. King of the Jews
    by OXBOW
If you're looking for an album to piss off your neighbours, you can't go wrong with King Of The Jews. Probably the most extreme record I own... it will jangle your nerves for sure. My daughter told me it made her sick to her stomach. LOL.
  9. Time Bomb High School
    by Reigning Sound
Like the great lost Replacements record Time Bomb High School perfectly captures that 80s/90s indie sound you lusted for back in the day. Dressy just says it all for me, one of the best songs about being young you'll ever hear.
  10. The Restless Stranger - digi only release
    by American Music Club
Excellent early material from the great AMC.
  11. On My Page
    by Courtney Marie Andrews
I think this may well be CMA's best album, certainly the best of her early material. Every song is just so powerful and it's stripped down to the bone -- just her voice and a guitar most of the time. If you're a CMA fan, this is essential.
  12. Half Way Home
    by Angel Olsen
  13. Life Time
    by Rollins Band
Early Rollins Band output is unique in the annals of music and this is one of the best of their releases. Pure power and raw emotion. Sadly, now hard to find.
  14. Ceremony
    by Anna von Hausswolff
  15. No One's Slate is Clean
    by Courtney Marie Andrews
Her songwriting ability is off-the-charts powerful... and then there's the voice. An unbeatable combo. My 2nd favourite CMA album after On My Page.
  16. The Tennessee Fire
    by My Morning Jacket
  17. Ghost Approaches
    by Earl Vallie
As the Brits say: It's a bit fookin mental innit? Seriously though, album of the year for me!
  18. Hee Haw
    by The Birthday Party
    Happy Birthday Happy Birthday
Talk about a post-punk classic. This is where it all starts! There was nothing like TBP, before or since and, along with Junk Yard, Prayers on Fire and the Mutiny EPs, this one is essential. Could stand a remaster though... feels a bit muted compared to their other albums.
  19. Woodland Rites

  20. Birth of Violence
