I suppose it would be so easy to perform a dismissive read of this music via "antecedents" or "influences,"--certainly, the sounds here aren't alien or unfamiliar (especially, perhaps, if you're from Portland). But novelty doesn't guarantee impact or depth. This music works emotionally, kinesthetically, poetically. It's an offering, an invitation, a promise of connection, and that will always be new because a promise, a connection, can only exist in the present. I think this band is brilliant.
