  4. Descend - Leslie Hunt
    by Spirit of Unicorn Music
    These Days These Days
Leslie is brilliant, unique and powerful. I heard her first with District 97, and even back then I knew, nobody can sing pop/non-pop like her. She has the chops and ears to perform all the difficult stuff, yet she never loses sight of the power of a simple song.
  5. Quartet for the End of Time: Dance of Fury, for the Seven Trumpets ("Hybrid Child" bonus track)
    by District 97
One of my favorite bands from the new generation. Serious musicians, skill, etc., but always well-constructed and meaningful songs. Even some humor, like in this track!
Don't let anybody tell you that "the kids today, they don't know how to play" etc etc. It's utter bullshit, and D97 was the first band on my radar to show me that!
  6. Swagism
    by Ghost-Note
This totally gives lie to the worn-out "millennials can't play real music" trope. These guys can play their ass off, but also be soulful about it, so that the first thing isn't about technique or chops, but about feeling.
  7. Valentina Moretti [LP] 𝘈𝘷𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘝𝘪𝘯𝘺𝘭
    by Valentina Moretti
    Killed Love Killed Love
She really has a good understanding of dance sounds, past and present. She knows how to mix these vintage sounds with the modern ones into a cohesive track that sounds good, punchy and danceable, with strong vibe - even on a laptop! It's not easy, it's more than just turning on a machine.
  8. sketchy.
    by Tune-Yards
This band (or duo, or whatever) is really refreshing, the best of the "random access generation" indie music (for lack of a better description!) They will take influences from pretty much any popular genre and somehow create an actual meaningful song experience, What seems sometimes random is actually well thought out. It's "quirky" (god what a shitty word", but I can always listen to their music.
