    by G.L.O.S.S.
    00:00/00:00
Trans Day Of Revenge Trans Day Of Revenge
One of the things about being a trans woman is that you’re often forced to overenunciate your femininity for the sake of your identity. Anything that’s not seen as traditionally feminine becomes ammunition that those against you can use to prove you’re not really trans, or that you’re just a man. G.L.O.S.S.'s music isn’t coded as feminine, it is loud, angry music. And that is so important for people in the queer community to have.

Sleep When Dead Sleep When Dead
I always feel weird when I try to write music cause I don’t think I’m very good at it. But I do know when I like something, and Pile is so good. It’s kind of like a sophisticated punk, Arcade Fire with dirty instruments and stripped of pretension. Each song works individually, but it also works remarkably well as a cohesive album, with each track building on the other. I don’t know, just listen to it. It’s really good.

    Mighty Morphing Mighty Morphing
I first discovered Sammus probably about a year ago with her excellent Metroid themed EP Another M. I was expecting something a bit gimmicky, like a fun novelty album. Instead I found just really great music. Her new EP, Infusion, is more direct in it’s approach, but still has the backing of her fantastic lyrical style, her choice use of allusions, and her strong beats to underline her points as she continues examining her own thoughts on her identity and her place in the world around her.

    Mae Jemison Mae Jemison
The idea of a rap album using Metroid samples sounds gimmicky, but in practice it produces something that goes beyond it's hook, becoming a powerful and endlessly endearing work of music. Mae Jemison especially belongs with the best hip-hop tracks out there.

Oh my god, so good! Mal has always been amazing but I feel like they have really outdone themselves here. I like the expansion from the guitar folksyness to the more indie rockish feel. It sounds like the best kind of mid-aughts music.

I Got Drunk I Got Drunk
This album plays to me as being the most positive breakup album I’ve heard, with Mal’s songs expressing what I can only describe as optimistic depression, where you know that eventually it’s going to be all better but it sucks right now so what, are you supposed to do something else besides drink? I’ve been a fan of Mal’s since I saw them on The Chris Gethard Show but haven’t gotten the chance til now to listen to a full album of theirs, and I’m so glad I did.

Dreamy synthpunk, a good album to listen to on a hazy summer night. Heard about this from The Best Show and really love the entire album. Will have to listen to its companion piece soon.
