Only the Spineless Survive Only the Spineless Survive
Revocation represents everything that has gone in Death Metal for the last 20 years. Great musicianship, progression and heavyness.

    Nihil Nihil
Probably one of the most epic and majestic black metal albums ever made. Takes you places...

    The Observatory The Observatory
This is easily a 10/10 for me. Encapsulates everything I love about the 2nd wave of Norwegian black metal and mixes it with an irresistible futuristic industrial wave for a very original and yet accesible experience. Fans of Arcturus, Solefald and even Dimmu Borgir, take notice.

    Executioner's Tax Executioner's Tax
I like my thrash brutal, relentless and serious as a heart condition. Power Trip has to be the best band I've listened in this genre for a loong time. Headbanging bliss!! If you are like me and can't have enough Exodus in your life, grab this inmediately.
  5. Manifest Decimation
    by Power Trip
    favorite track 00:00/00:00
    Crossbreaker Crossbreaker
No frills, no jokes, no affectations. Just straight-to-the-gut, hammering, angry thrash for your headbanging needs. "But what I know about is Texas, an' down here... you're on your own".

    Malmok járnak Malmok járnak
A great listen from start to finish! Never gets boring. This is experimental metal a la Ihsahn, mixing black metal with folk, electronica and even doomish Black Sabbath riffery.

For a concept album about the Dyatlov Pass Incident, this is pretty uplifting and beautiful. Goes seamlessly heavy to mellow, melancholic to exhilarating. Recommended.

Death, Endless Nothing and the Black Knife of Nihilism Death, Endless Nothing and the Black Knife of Nihilism
Bands that try to imitate/recapture early 90s Morbid Angel and Incantation are a dime a dozen these days. While some of them succeed in a broad manner, very few of them really capture the savage chaos and sense of impending apocalypse that made, for example, 'Altars of Madness' such a classic. For me, Adversarial a one of the chosen. The riffs are brutal yet intensely melodic, the eerie harmonies and undead growls mix in a beautiful tornado of metal that feels like the soundtrack of armaggeddon.

Between Scylla And Charybdis Between Scylla And Charybdis
Mithras is back, baby! I've been following them since the early 2000s. Death metal full of atmosphere, virtuosity and a mystic, cosmic vibe. After oh so few releases they deliver this beast of an album.

Lots of samples from the movie Dune, IX is an amazing song. I enjoyed the Björk cover, although it sounds quite different from the original.

Black Metal from the depths of the void. Monolithic, brooding, dark and scary as hell. My type of thing!

The Book Of The Dead The Book Of The Dead
Like being in an ancient Greek temple with snake worshippers. I really can't define what genre this is, but I love it; has some Metal in it, but delves more into deeply melodic prog and ambient flourishes.

Look upon the Light Look upon the Light
Amazing melodies; it has all the majesty of Summoning in its best moments. Love the lacerated vocals and the way the songs ebb and flow, in epic crescendos and furious releases. Has an elegiac, somber tone that smoothly transitions into a rousing epic. Sometimes it feels like the best black metal is being done by lone kids in their basements; thank Odin talents like this keep popping out.

    Game Over Game Over
Probably nothing in music has affected me the way late nineties Symph Black Metal did. Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle were (and still) are my favorite genre of all time, sadly losing some of the freshness and lustre with the passing years. But with the veterans from Arcturus doing stuff like this album, I can see nothing has been lost. The greats from Scandinavia are still alive and kicking ass. My favorite album from these crazy Norwegians.

Probably my favorite Metal release this year. Conjures early XVI Century spanish music, a medieval ritualistic mood, and mixes with melodic death metal w/ very harsh vocals. Has an ancient, regal feel, with slow headbanging instead of courtiers' dancing. The guitars are incredibly powerful.
