About 30 years ago I walked home from school and found Radio Caroline by Area had been mailed to me from Office Records. It's still a mystery as to why, but it started a love that still lasts. Haunting, beautiful, atmospheric, poetic music with the singular lyrical style & voice of Lynn Canfield, along with a Harold Budd meets Vini Reilly blanket of sound. Special music. Needed beauty.
  3. Mums' Revenge
    by Vic Godard
  4. Mental Home Recordings

  5. Islands
    by Erin Durant
Beautiful, poetic, sweetly soulful songs. The origins might be Brooklyn, but it fits perfectly while sitting by a tree staring out at a river.
  6. Jetstream Pony
    by Jetstream Pony
Gorgeous pop perfection that gets the heart thrumming and percolating. The vocals of Beth Arzy (Trembling Blue Stars, etc) are the sweet icing on the most delicious cake. Beautifully produced as well- unlike some indiepop albums, this one isn't afraid to sparkle.
  7. Didn't have Time
    by The New Existentialists
Didn't Have Time Didn't Have Time
I picked one song but that's silly, the whole album consists of beautiful askew pop. This music reminds me why I love this music.
  8. Someone
    by Even As We Speak
Even As We Speak were part of the Sarah Records roster, creating music with swooning melodies, stylistic shifts & a sense of darkness vs light. When they returned after 25 years, ir was no nostalgia plunge. The mood is of diluted idealism, while the music lights up the grey. A slinky beat, electronic undercurrents, guitar that makes you want to hula hoop in slow motion, and Mary's voice encapsulate sorrow and hope....this is music to treasure. Can't wait for the full length!
  9. Forgiving
    by Even As We Speak
An utterly gorgeous swirl of a song, melancholy and uplifting in equal measure. The minor chord pop perfection of their Sarah Records roots are evident, but this isn't reliving the past. The sonics journey from acoustic strum to sprigs of electronics, all held together by Mary Wyer's voice that conveys every nuance of emotion. This is truly special music and the best bit is there is more to come. What a gift to have Even As We Speak back!

The music of The Bitter Springs is a very full experience. In the course of an album the listrener is presented with beauty, anger, melody, and surprises (sonically and lyricall) galore. It's captivating music and this is one of their finest. PS The bonus tracks are outstanding!
