  4. Ash And Dust

At The Edge At The Edge
This is bloody brilliant! YOTC build on the promise of the Burn Your Dead EP. They continue to create huge rich soundscapes from just drums, bass and vocals. Just awesome.
  5. Death Ritual
    by Yatra
    Sacred Flower Sacred Flower
Makes me think of Sleep's Holy Mountain and Wretch-era Gates of Slumber. Great doom with death-y vocals. Slow but never boring due to great songwriting and dynamics that always lends a driving groove.
  6. Mysterium Tremendum
    by Lord Dying
Nearing the End of the Curling Worm Nearing the End of the Curling Worm
Weirdly uplifting despite the depressive subject matter. Weirdly progressive despite the trad roots. Possibly just overall weird. And heavy.
  7. Burst Into Flame
    by Haunt
Addictive classic rock/melodic metal. Rises way beyond being a tribute to heavy music from days gone by due to top notch songwriting and production.
  8. Future Slum
    by Backwoods Payback
    Whatever Whatever
Develops on their unique brittle-brutal sound, switching gears deftly between crushing grungy riffs and more melodic passages.
  9. Deal Thy Fate
    by Castle
Skull in the Woods Skull in the Woods
Castle have always worn their trad metal influences on their sleeve, and this album is no exception. The more melodic elements are blended with their trademark angular solos and sinister rumbling churn. Maybe not as catchy as the last album, but every bit as good.
  10. Of Blood and Wine
    by The Necromancers
    Secular Lord Secular Lord
A real progression in songwriting since their debut. That first album rested quite a lot on the two standout tracks bookending it, this one is much more consistent, taking their bombastic dark rock/metal sound through almost Iron Maiden galloping riffs to more subdued jazzy passages, but managing to project their own distinctive sound throughout. Love it!
  11. Equilibrium
    by GOZU
The People vs. Mr. T The People vs. Mr. T
Equal parts hard rocking and inventive. Fuzz, riffs, solos- Gozu keep it all coming. This is one of those albums that keeps rolling all the way through and never outstays its welcome.
  12. Beast Remains
    by Freedom Hawk
    Beast Remains Beast Remains
Ripple music mug me again... This is a highly-polished slab of Sabbath-tinged riff worship. I love the contrast between the slightly downbeat tones and the driving, catchy riffs. A quality offering from start to finish.
  13. Ride Of The Hoof
    by Sergeant Thunderhoof
Enter The Zigurat Enter The Zigurat
I'm kicking myself that it took me so long to tune in to this band. Gorgeous stoner metal with great classic and prog rock flourishes thrown in. Really great musicianship through the whole album. Ace!
  14. Cry Witch
    by Witchcryer
For the Slaves For the Slaves
Just when you thought there were too many bands with 'witch' in their name... This is a great doom album that wears its influences on its sleeve but still manages to sound modern.
  15. PLANETARY SPACE CHILD
    by RUBY THE HATCHET
    Pagan Ritual Pagan Ritual
Ruby the Hatchet continue to refine the sound that took root with 'Valley of the Snake'. Heavy psych with a classic rock edge. This is a really polished album.
  16. The Death of All Things
    by BEASTWARS
This is such a dynamic and rich album- 'sludge metal' doesn't really do it justice. There is a really sinister, dark vibe to the songwriting. At times this reminds me of 'Rude awakening' era Prong in its simultaneously melancholy and epic sound.
  17. Burn Your Dead
    by Year of the Cobra
Burn Your Dead Burn Your Dead
This is badass! A real sense of development in the short while since the last release. YotC continue to eke a huge sense of energy and vitality out of what (on paper anyway) is such a minimal setup.
  18. Welcome to the Graveyard
    by Castle
Welcome to the Graveyard Welcome to the Graveyard
Castle have an amazing dark and brooding sound. Sinister doom with tinges of trad metal and rock and roll. Nice production on this too.
  19. ...In The Shadows Below (2016)
    by Year of the Cobra
Temple Of Apollo Temple Of Apollo
Brilliant! Just drums, bass and vocals, but such a huge, unique sound. Well worth checking out!
  20. SKULLOSSUS
    by GURT
Double Barrelled Shot-pun Double Barrelled Shot-pun
This is the mutts nuts! Mental as shit. Party doom doesn't sound like a genre that should exist. AND YET IT MOVES.
