  1. Ruminate: Improvisations for Fretless Guitar and Dutar
    by Gabriel Akhmad Marin
    Reflection Reflection
The ancient winds of Sufi mysticism blow strongly. The creativity and authenticity of these improvisations is second to none. Ever since I fell in love with the spiritually driven styles of John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, and Gabor Szabo, I have been searching for my own connection to a love supreme. Gabriel Marin's music is a call to something greater, and it has awakened the same inspiration within me. This album is a gift to the world.
  2. John Ferrara + Seth Moutal Duo Live at The Museum of Modern Renaissance
by John Ferrara and Seth Moutal Duo
The Subtleties of Impermanence The Subtleties of Impermanence
John Ferrara's neo-classical world music fusion is unparalleled in its uniqueness and energy. The juxtaposition of intensity and levity in this performance is masterful. John Ferrara's double handed tapping and rapid slap techniques allow him to fill the sonic space of a guitarist and a keyboardist. Seth Moutal is a brilliantly delicate and inventive drummer, truly a perfect pair. This two man band leaves nothing to be desired.
  3. Promises
by Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & The London Symphony Orchestra
    Movement 7 Movement 7
I have only been completely floored by a small handful of albums. The atmosphere and intensity that builds is captivating, and the climactic moment of Pharoah Sander's madman rant in Movement 7 sent chills down my spine. One of the greatest musical moments of my life. Pharoah was approaching 80 during this recording, but I could argue this is his magnum opus. You can hear every year of experience in the smoky voice of his saxophone as he rolls through the breathy passages in this album.

    Smile Smile
As soon as I heard this I loved it. I have always felt like there is a void between heavier djent math rock and almost comical "midwest emo" math rock. This album doesn't take itself seriously and has fun doing it. The entire album has a levity and innocence that doesn't feel forced. Blazing guitar solos and riffs though! Like a glass of cold lemonade on a hot summer day, refreshing.
  5. Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven
    by Godspeed You Black Emperor!
Like Antennas To Heaven... Like Antennas To Heaven...
This album changed my life. There are no words to describe it.
  6. Space 1.8
    by Nala Sinephro
    Space 8 Space 8
Nala's delicate harp playing so intimately weaves together the various sounds, rhythms, and feelings of Space 1.8 into something transcendent. When I listen to this album I feel like my spirit is bathing in the warm light of a love supreme. I am profoundly grateful that in 2021 there are still artists who live to touch the souls of others.
  7. Moebius
    by Cyrille Verdeaux
Love the hindu inspired art and mysticism in this work. Cyrille weaves a delicate and airy musical space, like you're floating among the stars. Parts of this remind me of Mort Garson's Plantasia, parts of it remind me of the moody and atmospheric synths of Rick Wakeman. You can hear that classic Canterbury scene prog jazz influence, but the directionality and spirituality in this album makes it unique. After finishing it I always feel like I have embarked on a grand journey.
