  1. Runestape
    by Beats by Tickle
    POT UP POT UP
This honestly shouldn't work half as well as it does, and yet here we are. Effective blend of hip hop beats and Ian Taylor's original synth compositions.
  2. Vol. 1
    by chipmunks on 16 speed
Walk Like an Egyptian Walk Like an Egyptian
Playing Alvin and the Chipmunks records at 16 speed creates dark, melted, mesmerizing grunge. Who knew? Definitely one of the weirder experimental albums I've heard. This version of "Walk Like an Egyptian" might be the best out there.
  3. Vol. 2
    by chipmunks on 16 speed
Bettie Davis Eyes Bettie Davis Eyes
If you've listened to Vol. 1, you know pretty much what to expect. Last time around, "Walk Like an Egyptian" became a grimy, propulsive grunge anthem. This time, "Bette Davis Eyes" becomes a gorgeous, soothing synth epic. This stuff is something else, man.
  4. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
    by chipmunks on 16 speed
Not quite as grimy as some of the previous Chipmunks on 16 Speed material, but no less transformative.
  5. hammock
    by glaciære
Floating on the water Floating on the water
Relaxing, atmospheric, nostalgic – all the things good vaporwave should be. The filter over everything that makes it sound like the music's playing over speakers in an empty mall is ultra cool. Great stuff.
  6. I'll Probably Be Asleep
    by Hachiku
You'll Probably Think This Song Is About You You'll Probably Think This Song Is About You
Exceptional pop-rock, so consistently enjoyable that it's difficult to single out any one song as the album's best. A new favorite.
  7. The Touch (Stan Bush Cover feat. Jason Ashcraft)
    by Lords of the Trident
It's impossible to really improve "The Touch" by Stan Bush – it's the ultimate in '80s cheese – but this cover comes damn close to doing so. It rocks harder, feels punchier, and the synths sparkle like the '80s never went out of style.
  8. World Class
    by Luxury Elite
    S.W.A.K. S.W.A.K.
Snazzy, jazzy, pop that sounds like it belongs in a late '80s high-class shopping center – in all the right ways.
  9. One Hundred Mornings
    by Windows96
    Abstract Abstract
Vaporwave at its absolute best, evoking a false, but no less potent, nostalgia through its moody ambient synthscape. The standard by which the entire genre should be judged.
  10. One Hundred Mornings
    by Windows 96
Tomorrow (Bonus Track) Tomorrow (Bonus Track)
Adding the bonus tracks from prior releases directly into the album is a real treat, making this an improvement. And that's saying something, because this is still the best vaporwave album I know.
  11. Death's Door
    by David Fenn
    Betty Betty
Hints of Joe Hisaishi and Jeremy Soule flavor this highly atmospheric gem with great action scoring. It's a perfect accompaniment to the game (also excellent, by the way). The main theme is a real pleasure and I love the way it's threaded throughout, but like the drunk crow, my heart lies with Betty.
  12. Mighty Switch Force OST
    by Jake Kaufman
BGM - Jive Bot BGM - Jive Bot
An extremely enjoyable soundtrack, with plenty of tunes that'll make your butt wiggle in its seat. Don't be surprised if it makes you want to buy the game, too.
  13. Mighty Switch Force 2 OST
    by Jake Kaufman
Rainbow Love Zone Rainbow Love Zone
Hot hot hot! Mighty Switch Force 2 ups the ante with some of the most toe-tapping dance music ever written. On top of that, Rescue Girl might just be the best song ever written for a video game.
  14. Shovel Knight Original Soundtrack
    by Jake Kaufman
No Weapons Here (Village) No Weapons Here (Village)
The greatest chiptune soundtrack of all time? I'd say so. Might not sound like a good time to some, but the soundtrack that put Kaufman on a lot of people's radars is seriously good.
  15. Crypt of the NecroDancer - Freestyle Retro
    by Jake Kaufman
Disco Descent (1-1 Remix) Disco Descent (1-1 Remix)
Clever reworkings of Danny Baranowsky's original soundtrack for the dance-tastic dungeon-crawler from – who else? – the exceptional Jake Kaufman.
  16. Adventures of Pip OST
    by Jake Kaufman
    End Credits End Credits
Jake Kaufman really gets to show off his range on this one; Adventures of Pip has a wonderfully cinematic feel. You could play this over a fantasy film and it would fit right in.
  17. Shovel Knight - Plague of Shadows OST
    by Jake Kaufman
Disturbing the Peace Disturbing the Peace
Using Plague Knight's theme from the first Shovel Knight as a basis, Jake Kaufman conjures a short but satisfying follow-up to the classic original soundtrack.
  18. Shovel Knight - Specter of Torment OST
    by Jake Kaufman
A Wintry Paradise (Stranded Ship) A Wintry Paradise (Stranded Ship)
Specter of Torment isn't just fantastic reworking of previous Shovel Knight material; it also offers some of the best original compositions in the series so far.
  19. Shovel Knight - King of Cards OST
    by Jake Kaufman
Cruise Control (Airship) Cruise Control (Airship)
Very baroque. And I thought Specter of Torment had a classical feel. The fact that these influences shine through in a completely chiptune soundtrack is a testament to Kaufman's enormous skill as a composer.
  20. Hylics 2 Original Soundtrack
by Mason Lindroth & Chuck Salamone
    Mystic Cryptic Mystic Cryptic
A psychedelic, rambling, moody guitar soundscape beyond imagination. What Salamone and Lindroth pull off with Hylics 2 is unlike anything else I've ever heard, both strange and familiar, comforting and eerie, all at the same time.
