Everything else I have of the Frightnrs is superb. I'm expecting another collection of tasty musical morsels to get my musical juices flowing. Bring it Queens, New York - New Zealand awaits.
I've always loved The James Hunter sound. How can you not feel some lovin' stirrin' when you listen to him? I do think the album lacks some real gems from Hunter that I would have included on a 'hits' album. Seems a bit monotone for such an exciting artist. But grab a copy, you won't regret it. For lovers of Sam Cooke, soul, early RnB, blues, and sexiness.
Massive sounds. Nice modern sound with global appeal. Tight band, well done e te whānau! Love it. I'm diggin' the tune CC but will pick Sonny Moon as my favorite. What key is it in? I can hear harmonica parts lol And great job on the vocals Darren. This album is fire!
Steve Shafer of The Duff Guide to 2 Tone sums it up better than I ever could:
"The fantastic resulting album is highly evocative, full of atmospheric soundscapes and cinematic visions that exists somewhere in the realm of The Specials' More Specials, The Special AKA's In the Studio, Massive Attack vs. Mad Professor's No Protection, Megative's debut, and Rhoda Dakar's Lotek Four releases."
