The UK's leading solo bass guitarist - splitting my time between making music and listening to it. That's a pretty diverse life, I think you'll agree.

'Steve Lawson is a brilliant musician. I've known about him and listened to him for many years. He may not be one of the most famous bassists but he is definitely one of the most talented'.

Time On My Side Time On My Side
I've been a fan of Andrew Howie for longer than I care to remember. As a musician, writer, thinker and human being, he's an inspiration, and his music just gets better and better. I have an unreleased all acoustic version of this album, which was already in my favourite albums of the year. This more produced version is at least as brilliant if not more so. Everything about it is great. Seriously.

have had this album for a while, but needed in my Bandcamp collection :) rock/hip-hop crossover awesomeness. Divinity is the real deal
  3. Distractions

    Getting There Getting There
Beatbox has for many years been predominantly a live spectacle - amazing displays of skill, often by artists who struggle to maintain interest if you're not looking at them. Beardyman turns that on its head with this amazing album. Freaky-electronica that works whether you know it's a dude with a clever gob or not. Brilliance.
  4. Death Under Rainbows
    by Dan Phelps

I'm Throwing in the Towel I'm Throwing in the Towel
more wonderfulness from Dan Phelps (he of Modular) - guitar awesomeness that sits somewhere along the axis that runs from David Torn to Bill Frisell, but with a heaviness that comes from somewhere else altogether... Incredible production too (listen on the best speakers/headphones you can find!)

    Tax Return Tax Return
proof that the UK is producing some of the most interesting jazz-ish music on the planet. This is really wonderful. Equal parts grooving, melodic, spiky and enthralling.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
There are SO few Christmas albums that don't make me want to leave the room, it's safe to say it's a genre I generally hate... however, this is properly beautiful (just re-bought it for my mother-in-law to put on her iPod, hence buying it in September! ;) ) Anyway, maybe bookmark this one for November shopping x

Wow, this is wonderful! Really imaginative, wide-ranging progressive metal, incorporating a dizzying number of influences from around the world. Properly brilliant.
