  6. Let There Be Rot
    by Rotpit
    Rottenness Rottenness
Finnish death with some Swedish and American touches that never misses the mark, doesn't overstay its welcome, and is just plain fun. Don't be put off by the fun descriptor - this is fun in the same way Deicide's third and fourth albums are fun: well-written and catchy death metal that begs for an immediate replay.
  7. Conspiracy
    by King Diamond
At the Graves At the Graves
I like this better than "Them" and I love "Them."
  8. Goat
    by NUNSLAUGHTER
Raid the Convent Raid the Convent
Filthy, simple, and a ton of fun. Song for song, probably their best.
  9. Butchered At Birth
    by Cannibal Corpse
Butchered at Birth Butchered at Birth
A strong contender to answer the question "what does death metal sound like?" Great riffs, relentless brutality, and Barnes turns in a better performance here than on Tomb of the Mutilated. Vicious, grimy, nasty, mandatory.
  10. Doomed Mankind
    by Gomorrha
    Vicious Circle Vicious Circle
Outstanding old-school death from a band who was around back in the day. Reminds me of From Beyond in the best way. There's no tricks or secrets here - just well-written songs played (but not overplayed) with passion and skill.

  12. Raped in Their Own Blood (Bonus Edition)
    by Vomitory
Sad Fog over Sinister Runes Sad Fog over Sinister Runes
An underrated gem. Great songwriting, old-school production, a hint of Swedish black metal, killer vocals. Not the bludgeoning of their later career, but equal in quality.
  13. Tomb Of The Mutilated
    by Cannibal Corpse
Beyond the Cemetery Beyond the Cemetery
Barnes-era Cannibal Corpse rules. Incredible record. While I favour its predecessor and successor slightly, this is still mandatory death metal listening.
  14. A Call to Arms
    by Jungle Rot
    Maggot Infested Maggot Infested
It sounds like Jungle Rot, but Jungle Rot does Jungle Rot better here than on the last few Jungle Rot albums. Their best since Kill on Command.
  15. Scriptures of Vicennial Defilement
    by Kraanium
Internally Purified with Scorching Iron Internally Purified with Scorching Iron
Last I saw Kraanium, they'd recently released Slamchosis, and I got the gnarliest nosebleed I've ever had in the pit - managed to fill a bathroom sink at least once. This is a top-tier entry into their discography, more early Devourment influence than usual. Excellent soundtrack to lifting and, if they come to my neck of the woods, potential future concert injuries.
  16. Redemption (Bonus Edition)
    by Vomitory
Forty Seconds Bloodbath Forty Seconds Bloodbath
You probably don't spin this classic enough. You may think you do, but you don't. Mandatory listening. If you don't like this you don't like death metal.
  17. Dark Future
    by Destroying Divinity
Undead in the Darkness Undead in the Darkness
A nice slab of Floridian-style death metal with technicality that doesn't hamper the heaviness. Those looking for novelty won't find it here, but those looking for quality death metal will.
  18. Execration Diatribes
    by PESTIFER
Brutal Eruption of Chaos Brutal Eruption of Chaos
Along with labelmates Cambion, Pestifer makes the unhinged fast death metal that, for some reason, seems to have receded over the years. Falses need not entry.
