  3. Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám
    by Stuart Wicke
Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám is an ambitious project, and it is a resounding success. The two epics weave beautiful lyricism with dynamic and exciting instrumentals. There is a clear thematic throughline on each song, with peaks and troughs of drama and emotion.

  12. Moon Healer
    by Job for a Cowboy
I’m very glad I set aside my preconceived notions of Job for a Cowboy for this record. It’s technical, exciting, and passionate. The songs veer all over the place, but there’s clearly a lot of planning and control to that chaos.

  14. Terrapath
    by plantoid
Plantoid’s debut LP is a solid bit of hazy, murky psychedelic prog. Airy vocal arrangements, jazzy clean guitar lines, and splashes of heavy fuzzed-out rock give this record an intriguing retro-futuristic feel.

    by 55YT MQRT
They play a vast, cosmic variety of heavy psych and prog, and the album art of an astronaut traveling through an ancient temple is weirdly fitting. The soundscapes are vast and huge, and everything has a massive amount of weight behind it.

Guitar is the lead instrument more often than not, but the keys are smartly deployed and add a great depth. The bass playing is punchy and energetic, and the drumming is skillful and varied.

Progressions Imaginaires is Perilymph’s strongest album to date and an easy contender for my nascent best-of-2024 list.
